'The Fault in Our Stars' is truly heartbreaking and genuine

Throughout the decades, there has been an overwhelming trend in the book-to-movie adaptations, and so much the better for sparking a fire toward both industries. The definition of 'good' or 'bad' adaptation is subjective as everyone has a different opinion. However, for decades readers are repeating the same phrase:

"The book is better than the movie".

I'm sure you have heard of 'The Fault in Our Stars' right now and many of you have already read/watched the movie. So to those people who haven't read/watch it- I recommend that you do.

Blurb:

Despite the tumour-shrinking medical miracle that has brought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning author John Green's most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

Author: John Green

Genre: Young adult novel Realistic fiction

Cast: Ansel Elgort, Shailene Woodley

Director: Josh Boone

Screenplay: Scott Neustadter&Michael H. Weber

Publication date: January 10, 2012

My Thoughts💭:

This is one of the realistic young-adult fiction romance books that everyone should read. This book is perfect for anyone because it gives you a perspective on sickness, death and the power of friendship. It's a book that you could literally throw at someone's face and it wouldn't hurt as much as the story does.

Trust me. This book will definitely make you laugh and cry at the same time. It will leave you feeling a ton of emotions and forever change the way you hear the word "okay". It makes you think about how short life can be, how can someone change your life so easily and how precious love is. I had a great connection with all the characters, and that was a really good feeling. When characters are relatable it becomes easy to get sucked into the story, because the author makes you care.

Let's start with what I loved...

⚠️I'd want to warn that there WILL be spoilers! So if you haven't read the book yet please skip ahead as I'd hate to ruin it for you.

Why I loved 'The Fault in Our Stars':

  1. The chemistry between Hazel and Gus. The dialogue between them is surpassing.

  2. It's an incredible cancer story, not the usual cancer love story

  3. This tragic ending has a clear plot point: in the end, the love of Hazel Grace's life, Augustus Waters, dies. He's 17.

  4. It teaches you that life doesn’t have to be perfect to love it. You will realize that your "big problems" are nothing compared to them.

  5. It shows how Hazel and Gus push through their terrible cancer and how they never give up on life or each other.

  6. The part when they went to Amsterdam, it was an ideal trip.

  7. It's one of the most quotable books I've at any point read.

  8. Shailene Woodley is splendidly melancholic while Ansel Elgort shows the complexities of his character with incredible development.

READ & WATCH The Fault in Our Stars…seriously. You won’t regret it.

Book & movie ratings:

There are more than 10.7 million copies of his book sold to date and more than $300 million in movie tickets as a Hollywood adaptation.

This was one of the best book-to-screen adaptations I've ever seen.😍

If you're planning to watch the movie, please keep a box of tissues by your side because it will leave a smile on your face and tears in your eyes at the end.🤧

NOTE: It's better to read the book before watching the movie.

Things you didn't know about 'The Fault in Our Stars':

  • The Fault in Our Stars- The book's title originates from a line in Shakespeare's play in Julius Caesar where Cassius says, "The fault, dear Brutus is not in the stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings." John Green needed to show that despite the deficiency in our stars, awful destiny, individuals can at present endure and even flourish.

  • The meaning behind Hazel's name-"Hazel is an in-between colour," says John," and she's in between a lot of things: in between healthy and sick, in between adulthood and childhood, in between breathing air and breathing water etc."

  • The meaning behind Augustus' name-"Augustus is the name of Roman emperors. It's a grand name associated with traditional nations of greatness"

  • Inspiration- John Green was inspired by his initial work as a youngsters' clergyman at a clinic and his companionship with one of his fans, 16-year-old Esther Earl, who kicked the bucket with one thyroid cancer right around 10 years prior.

  • John Green was supposed to have a cameo-If you've read the book, do you still remember the scene where a little girl asks Hazel about her oxygen tank? John Green was going to play that little's girl father. Sadly, the scene got cut.

SPOILER-ALERT !! ⚠️

Differences between the movie and book:

Quotes:

Closing up:

Overall, I cannot express enough splendid things about this book and movie. I highly recommend both the book and movie version. The movie was excellent, it's as though the directors brought Hazel and Gus legitimately off the pages of John Green's book and onto the screen for everyone to watch. The main actor and actress - Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort portrayed their characters perfectly in an incredible and heart-breaking way- no one could ever do that. Watching the movie is like riding an emotional roller coaster.
