The Art of Clothing: Thread by Thread

We’ve all got clothes in our closets. There's clothes in the shopping malls. There’s clothes on models sauntering on the runway, showing off the latest designs in multimillion companies, heads held high. There’s clothes everywhere for our bodies to embrace day and night, everyday.

Fashion, by definition according to Cambridge English Dictionary, is “a style that is popular at a particular time, especially in clothes, hair, make-up, etc”. There’s a universe of infinite styles: grunge, preppy, sporty, casual, cosplay, and so much more. The list goes on. As the saying goes, ‘a picture paints a thousand words,’ and it can be applicable to fashion. Every stitch, every slight wrinkle, speaks more than words can say.

Personally, I don’t really mind what particular style I wear to the places I go to. As long as it’s comfortable and fetching, I’m all for it. And hey! It might not work for everyone. That’s okay. Everyone has their own preferences that help decide what exactly appeals to them.

Another aspect of fashion is the personality. Though, not every single piece of garment has text that actually spells out what kind of person you are. What you decide to wear, when you decide to wear it, and where do you wear it, conveys a certain image.

Picture this. It’s the new year and to celebrate, your widely known grandpa decides to host a party to honor the exciting things to come. He’s a wealthy man, a billionaire with a habit of collecting interesting artifacts sold for a handsome price. Everyone’s coming and it’s gonna be lit! Party streamers will be hanging in the corridors, platters of immensely satisfying food will be ready to fill your stomach with, and many games will be played with one another. Laughter will echo the halls and people will come home with smiles on all their faces.

You weren’t really one to care about what outfit you wear. Carelessly, you spend 10 minutes scrounging for your favorite items: a Matt black off-shoulder t-shirt, indigo ripped jeans, and bold boots that reach halfway up to your knees. I’d think you were a casual wearer with a confident aura. Others could agree or they would think something else.

Then as you make your way to the table with the cocktails, you spot an elegant woman, in a flowing dress, the back end reaching up her ankles, emblazoned with shining white beads all over. Her hair is spread evenly across her shoulders, along with golden bling ‘round her neck and on her arm. Black mascara adorns her eyelashes and her lips are a bold, scarlet red. Expensive? Definitely. So you might think her a wealthy being, pockets and house stuffed with green strips of currency.

The clothing you wear speaks quite a lot about a person’s character and personality. It reflects your style and the way you hold yourself. It is quite the picture that paints a thousand words.
