Growing from Challenges by Sean Goh & Nathan Lai

It is normal to feel stressed, upset and down when we are faced with life’s challenges. We cannot completely escape life’s challenges; they are part of life.

The question is, how can we “grow” from challenges so that we emerge from them happier and stronger?

For example, you want to obtain good grades. You put all your effort into that goal, setting a high standard for yourself. You get your grades back and are disappointed that you did not reach your goals for some subjects. Sound familiar? It’s happened to all of us at some point. The main difference between those of us who pick ourselves up and “keep going” and those who “give up” is resilience.

The best way to build resilience is indirectly (we can’t directly build resilience) and before it happens – start now!

Below are some ideas that you might want to try to start building resilience.

· Take care of your physical health – eat well, sleep well and exercise!

· Spend time with friends and family – having social support matters!

· Speak to someone when you are upset. You don’t have to go through

everything alone.

· Set incremental goals for yourself – achieving smaller goals.

· Be grateful – count your blessings, celebrate the smaller wins

· Know what works for you when you need to de-stress.

Try it out and let your Peer Mentors know what it was like for you 😊
